Emily’s Finale

Sparkly shoes, bold colours, rainbows and butterfly’s. It could only be Emily’s send off and what a send off it was.

Beautiful music, floods of tears, singing, laughing and even a spot of dancing. It was exactly what she would have wanted… Well it was how she planned it… Emily to a T.

The family did her so proud, each playing their part and carrying out Emily’s final wishes in true Thackray style.

It was amazing to see so many of my wonderful friends but tinged with sadness that it was Emily’s finale that reunited us. Matt did the honours of taking a selfie whilst Pop’s stated “It’s what she would have wanted!”

It was surreal to be amongst so many people that knew and loved Em and for her not to be there. The wake or as everyone began to call it “party” was so Emily we all expected her to walk in any minute.

Emily chose the following poem to be read during the service.

She is Gone
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

You taught us all so much Emily and I will carry that with me always.
Forever in our hearts and a beautiful legacy you have left in your darling daughter Sophia.

Sleep peacefully sweetheart
